Welcome

When tax season approaches, many people in feel a sense of "tax" dread. Even though it signals the end of winter and the beginning of spring, it also means a lot of paperwork and crunching of numbers.

Most people are not experts on tax return regulations in Canada. When people file an income tax return, many of them turn to professional tax preparation services to help them out.

There is no “one size fits all” procedure for income tax preparation. Whether you’re a regular employee, self-employed or you are a university student - you need to file your taxes in a way that’s appropriate to your circumstances. It can be confusing to gather all the relevant documents for your tax return and file them before the deadline.

When you meet with me, I will explain the documents needed for your specific income tax return.

Standard Tax Return

This is the personal income tax return that most people will file. A standard return consists of various schedules and common inputs that include the following:

  • Income reporting tax slips such as T4 and other income reporting tax slips such as T5, T4A and T4E

  • RRSP contributions

  • Expenses for child care and other receipts

  • Donations

  • Medical expenses

  • Other relevant income and expense items

Student Tax return

If you are a student, in addition to your standard tax return inputs, include:

  • Tuition and education receipts (form T2202)

  • If you are transferring your education tax credits to a supporting person, you must complete and sign the back of your form T2202.

Self-Employed Tax return

Income from self-employment is included on your personal tax eturn. A sole proprietor is someone who owns an unincorporated business; they receive all the profits and cover all the expenses. If you have sole proprietorship for your business, you should report the following:

  • revenue

  • expenses

  • capital purchases

  • home office expenses

  • motor vehicle expenses

Final Tax Return on Death

When someone passes away, an executor or administrator must file their final tax return. It dates from January of that year to the date of their passing. JoJo The Tax Medic can help executors and administrators complete a final tax return for a deceased person.

Services

Giving back to the Community

I became a first responder in 2007 after graduating from Fire ETC - part of Lakeland College in Vermillion, Alberta.  I loved every minute of my job but after many years as a first responder, I was diagnosed with C-PTSD. First responders often deal with dangerous and life-threatening situations, the trauma and emotional stress that comes with their day-to-day can really affect their mental health and cause post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety—to name a few. The stress of the job does not just go away when you go home at night. Many battle with mental health as a result of the jobs they love and the situations they are sent to improve. Unfortunately, not everyone struggling feels that he or she can ask for help.

JoJo The Tax Medic was born from this mindset – to raise awareness for PTSD and mental health in first responders and to support those still struggling. Which is why a donation of $5 for each tax file completed is donated to charities that assist first responders dealing with PTSD, and PTSD recovery. Since 2023, we have donate dover $500 to various Canadian charities to help Canadian First Responders. Thank you to  everyone who has helped support me, my business and First Responders.

You may have questions about what the tax return requirements are for your specific circumstances. At JoJo The Tax Medic, I will be happy to meet with you (online or in-person) to discuss your tax return preparation needs.
